About Coalition Barrel Proof Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey

It all started with Thompson’s hand-crafted rye whiskey that was made in 2015 at his Kentucky Artisan Distillery in Crestwood, KY. It was 100% rye whiskey that was crafted with Ryman grains that were grown right next to the distillery, at the historic Waldeck farm. The spicy spirit would serve as the basis for their expressions ― the next step had them turn to Bordeaux, France. They found them in Margaux, Pauillac, and Sauternes. This resulted in 3 beautiful rye whiskey expressions that feature eye-catching art deco-inspired bottles. The 4th is the original barrel-proof 100% rye whiskey.

The whiskey itself is crafted with a rare mash bill of 90% rye and 10% malted rye with no automation involved and using a pre-Prohibition all-copper pot still. It’s aged for 5 years in American white oak. This expression is a showcase of that rye whiskey without the wine finish, letting the unique mash bill shine on its own at a barrel proof of 108.8. Powerful with spice, butterscotch, orange zest, tobacco, and a peppery finish, the unique spirit exudes confidence.

About Rye

As American as the bald eagle, rye whiskey was first brewed in the American Northeast in the 1600s. Even George Washington distilled it after leaving the Oval Office, so there’s no way of denying its origin.

By law, rye whiskey must be made from at least 51% rye grain, aged in new and charred oak barrels for at least two years, and bottled at no more than 62,5% ABV.
