About 818 Tequila
Celebrity-backed tequilas are not a particularly new phenomenon on the spirits scene, but 818 Tequila from model and actress Kendall Jenner was much anticipated in 2021. Named after the area code for Calabasas, California, where the Kardashian-Jenner clan has lived for years, 818 Tequilas are a collection of Blanco, Reposado and Añejo tequilas. Jenner announced that after “dozens of blind taste tests, trips to our distillery, entering into world tasting competitions anonymously and WINNING,” 3.5 years later they’ve finally “done it”. 818 Tequila garnered awards at several competitions, including the “Best Reposado” at World Tequila Awards and the Ultimate Spirits Challenge. Altogether, 818 has won 16 blind tasting awards across 6 major industry competitions.
The handcrafted, small-batch tequilas are made with 100% blue Weber agaves that are handpicked from the lowlands and highlands of Jalisco, Mexico. The spirit is produced sustainably using traditional methods at a family-owned-and-operated distillery in Jalisco. The distiller’s registration number suggests 818 Tequila is distilled at La Cofradia distillery, famed for its wide range of award-winning tequila brands. Currently, they have 3 expressions in their lineup: a Blando, Reposado, and Añejo.
About Tequila
Although tequila has developed a bad reputation, there’s more to the spirit than just shots on a Saturday night.
This traditional Mexican drink origins in the state of Jalisco when according to a local legend, lightning struck an agave cactus before the Nahua tribe drank its warm nectar. Behold, tequila.
Legally, tequila has to be made of 51% of Blue agave around the Jalisco region in Mexico. There are different types of tequila according to age – from the youngest representatives, blanco, reposado, and añejo, to the oldest extra añejo.
