About Tanteo Chipotle Tequila
Tanteo is a line of ultra-premium tequilas crafted to make the perfect spicy and classic margaritas. The only tequila owned and operated by a co-operative of agave farmers, Tanteo is distilled, infused and bottled by hand at a cooperative distillery in the town of Juanacatlan in Jalisco. The opening of the distillery in a former denim factory helped revive the local economy, bringing jobs back to the area, and the distillery employs mostly women, with special emphasis on hiring single mothers and widows. The ingredients are sourced locally: the agave comes from a cooperative community of over 80 agave growers, and the peppers are grown in Mexico. The bottles, labels and corks are also made in Mexico. The production of Tanteo is waste free, as the distillery reuses and composts the byproducts and waste from the process.
Tanteo tequila is made from 100% blue Weber agave. The distillery uses agaves with higher sugar content, grown in the diverse Cienega region of Jalisco. The agaves are cooked in brick ovens and not a diffuser or autoclave, which results in a more flavorful tequila with fewer impurities, but requires more time and attention than the modern methods. The line features a higher proof Blanco, and three pepper infused expressions – spicy Jalapeño, smoky Chipotle and extra spicy Habanero.
Tanteo Chipotle is a smoky and spicy tequila infused with roasted chipotle peppers. The second expression in Tanteo’s line of spicy tequilas was created as an answer to Mezcal – a way to add smoke and spice to your favorite tequila cocktail. It took Tanteo’s CEO and master blender Neil Grosscup 18 months to perfect the recipe. Tanteo Chipotle is made by soaking roasted chipotle peppers from the rugged mountains of Chihuahua, Mexico, in Tanteo’s overproof blanco, and artfully blending the macerates to create the perfect balance of heat, smoke and agave sweetness.
