2020 Masottina Le Rive di Ogliano Contrada Granda Superiore

Indeed, Masottina’s RDO (as they like to call it) has been voted ‘Best Prosecco’ at giant Decanter World Wine Awards twice in the last decade, its charms undeniable. Of course, the core appeal here starts in the vineyard. The original Masottina plots sit in the green hills high above the town of Ogliano, north of the main Conigliano Prosecco homeland. This Prosecco Superiore, in particular, comes from the revered (unofficial) grand cru of ‘Le Rive di Ogliano’ with the revered east facing slope equivalent to the hill of Corton (if you’re looking for a comparison). And the wine? Well, it’s stunning. An extra-dry style, there’s a tension here between light, lemon drop sweet fruit and then a cascading wall of cleansing acidity, all making for a quintessentially refreshing sparkling wine.
